Five Kingdoms of Muiremere - Loose ends #1 by Blaidd--Drwg Five Kingdoms of Muiremere - Loose ends #1 by Blaidd--Drwg
This is basically an attempt to salvage an older drawing of mine. I drew the original on A3 paper and almost ruined when I tried to colour it. After that I left it alone for quite some time, but the fact that it was unfinished kept bothering me.
Now I've scanned the original image and tried to make the best of it.

I'm not entirely happy with it, but it's the best I could do given the original drawing. I really should start over :P

Pen, paper, watercolour pencils, Photoshop CS4 and stock images:
- the background is "Old Paper" by Struck_Dumb [link]
- the little ship icons are stock images too, but I don't remember where I found them. If anyone recognizes them, please drop me a line and I'll include the source here.

Heh, it's just that I can see the coast of Norway on the mountains of Firn-Iradas, Maryeddon's bay could be that of Oslo, Revanna resembles the name Reval (Tallinn) and Suidar a bit 'Swede' (which were 'Suiones' by Tacitus). The language in the marginal also sounds like something from Norway.

Oh yeah, you have a point. =) This conlang does borrow quite a bit from Old-Norse (and Welsh, actually; I'm a fan of both). I've nicked some words and the grammar has some similarities to Old-Norse as well. Most of all the vowel mutations that are caused by grammatical endings. I didn't use Scandinavia as an inspiration for the geography or culture of the island (though the are expert sailors :P). The resemblances with Reval (I'm almost completely unfamiliar with the Baltic region) and Swede/Suiones are purely coincidental.

BTW: thank you very much for your critique on Val Nevan! I appreciate it :) I'll get back to it sometime next week. Critiques deserve a bit of time to respond to, and I'm afraid I've got very little of that, at the moment :)

I'm guessing those different coloured regions represent different nations of some sort?
